Low mintage! Keep it if you come across this one. It's difficult to find and is highly sought after today in uncirculated condition. Collectors pay more than face value for it.

This coin can be found in 2012 circulation rolls of the old-generation toonie and in annual occasional gift coin sets, the collector’s edition uncirculated coin sets.

Beginning in 2006, the process used to produce the toonies included in annual occasional gift coin sets was very similar to that used for coins struck for circulation. With slower striking speeds and greater care in loading and unloading the press, these coins show fewer marks than regular business strikes.

Composition:

  Outer ring: 99+% Ni,

Inner core: 92% Cu, 6% Al and 2% Ni

The coin in the pictures is a circulation issue in mint state condition.
