In 2012, the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) updated Canada’s one-dollar coin by introducing a new version of the loonie. The redesign added enhanced security features, including a latent image and fine micro-engraved details to help prevent counterfeiting. At the same time, the coin’s composition was changed to multi-ply brass-plated steel, improving durability and reducing production costs while maintaining the coin’s familiar appearance.
Composition: multi-ply brass-plated steel
11-sided: 26.50 mm
Weight: 6.27 g
Thickness: 1.95 mm
Edge: Plain
The coin in the pictures is a circulation issue in mint state condition.
