Located in Ottawa's Confederation Square, the National War Memorial (or The Response) was originally built to commemorate the Canadian soldiers that gave their lives during the World War I. In 1982, it was rededicated to include dates for World War II and the Korean War. In 1994, the Royal Canadian Mint released the "Remembrance" dollar, a commemorative coin featuring an engraving of the monument to honor the fallen.
