To commemorate the 100 anniversary of the Confederation.

During 1967, the rising price of silver forced a reduction in the silver content of 25-cent coins from 80% to 50%. The two varieties cannot be distinguished by appearance.

Hold on to this coin if you come across one — it contains 80% or 50% silver. As silver prices continue to rise, these coins have become increasingly hard to find and are now highly sought after, especially in uncirculated condition. Collectors are willing to pay well above face value for them.

Composition: 80% silver, 20% copper / 50% silver, 50% copper

Diameter: 23.88 mm

Weight: 5.83 g

Edge: Reeded

The coin in the pictures is a circulation issue in mint state condition.
